The Food map highlights the people and projects within Kendal who are reducing food miles and food waste.
Historically, Kendal’s Market would only sell food and produce sourced from the hills and farms that surround us, in keeping with Kate Raworth’s doughnut economy model.
Today we can access a similar ‘traditional’ model via the Kendal Farmers Market, local small holdings and organic fruit and veg grown nearby at Siezegh.
Its brilliant to see low carbon traditions are enjoying a revival thanks to decent common Cumbrian sense and the co benefits of eating locally produced seasonal food.
Organic fruit and veg boxes are being delivered to many throughout Kendal and local food growing is increasing via Kendal’s impressive and well stocked allotments which are linked to the brilliant social enterprise Waste into Wellbeing.
